Early History
The Champaign County Bank was organized in 1851 under the Free Banking System of Ohio.[2] In 1865, the directors and stockholders of the bank sought a national bank charter, which was granted on March 21, 1865.[3]
Bank History
In January of 1911, capital stock was doubled from $100,000 to $200,000. Around that same time, the bank purchased the property at the corner of North Main and Court streets directly across from the courthouse. Although the building could not be completely renovated at the time the front was rebuilt with stone and oak while the south side doors were replaced with plate glass windows and doors.[4]
In 2007, Champaign National Bank was acquired by Citizens Banking Co., now Civista Bank.[5]
