Claysville is a borough in Washington County, Pennsylvania and part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area since 1950. The population was 728 at the 2020 census. It is the birthplace of Benjamin Franklin Jones of the Jones and Laughlin Steel Company.

Claysville had three National Banks chartered during the Bank Note Era, and all three of those banks issued National Bank Notes.

On March 8, 1890, the stockholders of the proposed National Bank of Claysville met at the office of D.M. Campsey and elected the following gentlemen directors of that institution: T.F. Birch, J.R. McLain, D.M. Campsey, Wm. Wilson, L.M. Crothers, B. Horkheimer, J.N. Montgomery, G.S. Inglis, and John Sawhill. At a meeting of the directors in the evening, Hon. J.R. McLain was elected president, D.M. Campsey, vice president and W.C. King, the B&O agent at Washington, as cashier. The board adjourned without electing an assistant cashier, but John A. McLain was thought likely to be elected at the next meeting.

In June 1892, the report of the National Bank of Claysville showed it to have resources of $191,720.76, and $833.34 in undivided profits. The Claysville First National Bank had resources of $151,110.13 and $9,164.21 in undivided profits. Claysville was only a small country village, but it was able to support two national banks. The capital stock of each was $50,000.

In November 1946, President Albert J. Allison announced the Citizens National Bank of Washington purchased the National Bank of Claysville and would operate it as a branch under the name "The Citizens National Bank of Washington, Claysville Branch." The transaction was completed as of the close of business, Saturday, November 23, 1946, whereupon the deposits of National Bank of Claysville of approximately $2,340,000 were transferred to the Washington bank.
