Union City is a borough in southeastern Erie County, Pennsylvania, 22 miles southeast of Erie. The community of Union City, once known as Miles Mills and Union Mills, was founded in 1789. William Miles developed the community as a market and industrial center. Settlers found the region to be covered in primeval forest with large open tracts among the rolling hills. In the twentieth century, there were three large chair factories, planing and grist mills, a powdered milk plant, and several furniture factories. In the 1860s, the post office name was Union Mills. The population was 3,320 at the 2010 census.

Union City had three National Banks chartered during the Bank Note Era, and all three of those banks issued National Bank Notes. Union Mills, an earlier name for Union City, had one National bank chartered and it issued National Bank Notes.
