New Milford is a borough located in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania. It lies midway between Montrose and Susquehanna, nine miles from each. It is situated on an extensive flat near the center of New Milford township at the confluence of the branches of Salt Lick Creek. The town has two parallel streets running straight with cross streets at convenient distances forming well arranged squares. Main street was lined with maple trees in the early 1900s. By rail the town is 42 miles from Scranton and twenty from Binghamton, New York. It incorporated as a borough in 1859. The population was 868 at the 2010 census. In 1910 the population 654 growing until it peaked at 1,143 in 1970.

Jedediah Adams settled there in 1789 and constructed a crude cabin. An old trapper and hunter named De Vaux had previously constructed a primitive bark cabin, but soon abandoned it leaving Adams and his wife alone in the depths of the wilderness.

The library was opened in 1893 by Mr. Ezra Pratt. His son, Col. Charles Pratt, a Pennsylvania Congressman, built the current library building in 1903. The building was made of limestone, had a large copper door, and contained a mechanical clock in the clock tower. In 1922, the Pratt family donated the library to the community and the Pratt Memorial Library Association was formed.

New Milford had one National Bank chartered during the Bank Note Era, and it issued National Bank Notes.
