Town History
Nuremberg is a census-designated place (CDP) in Schuylkill and Luzerne counties, Pennsylvania. It is located about 22 minutes, or 13 miles west of Hazleton. The population was 434 at the 2010 census. A post office has been in operation in Nuremberg since 1886. The community is served by the Hazleton Area School District.
Nuremberg had one National Bank chartered during the Bank Note Era, and it issued National Bank Notes.

The merger of the First National Bank of Nuremberg with the Hazleton National Bank was approved by shareholders of the respective institutions on Tuesday, November 12, 1968. John D. Mensinger, president of the First National Bank of Nuremberg, was elected to the board of directors and to serve as vice president and chairman of the advisory board of the Hazleton National Bank. Other Nuremberg bank officers added to the Hazleton bank's leadership included Karl Erdman as a vice president, Clyde Rhodes as assistant vice president and branch manager, and Attorney Henry A. Giuliani as solicitor for the Nuremberg branch. Karl H. Erdman, Henry A. Giuliani, Paul A. Green, Scott A. Klinger, James Labenberg, John D. Mensinger, and Clyde L. Rhodes became members of the Nuremberg Advisory Board. All other employees continued to serve in their previous positions.
Prior to the merger, the Hazleton National Bank had five offices in Luzerne and Carbon Counties and reported deposits of more than $41.8 million and assets in excess of $46.6 million on June 30, 1968. The First National Bank of Nuremberg located in Schuylkill County listed midyear deposits in excess of $2.2 million and total assets in excess of $2.5 million.
On January 28, 1969, the comptroller of the currency announced approval of two Pennsylvania bank mergers. First National Bank of Nuremberg and the Hazleton National Bank of hazleton under the Hazleton bank's charter and title. Farmers Bank of Mercersburg and National Valley Bank and Trust Co. of Chambersburg, under National Valley's title and charter.
