Ernest Leroy King, (Sr.) (March 7, 1877 – December 12, 1949) was president of The Winona National and Savings Bank in Winona, Minnesota, from 1916-1944.

Biography

Early life and family

  • Ernest Leroy King was born on March 7, 1877 in Gallipolis, Ohio to Charles and Martha Salsman King.
  • On November 19, 1904 he married Grace Watkins, daughter of J.R. Watkins, founder of J.R. Watkins Medical Company.
  • E.L. "Bud" King, Jr. was born to Ernest and Grace in 1914, he would become president of the bank in 1944.

E.L. King was president of The Winona National and Savings Bank from its founding as a national bank in 1916 to 1944 when he retired.

Other career highlights

  • After marrying Grace, Ernest became vice president of the Watkins company, a position he held until 1931 when he became president, he held this position until his retirement in 1944.
  • He also organized and headed Owl Motor company.

Later life and death

  • E.L. King died on December 12, 1949, aged 72 years.
