Mark H. Liddle was born in Poland [other accounts say it was nearby Boardman], Ohio on May 6, 1864, son of James and Nancy Loveland Liddle.  While quite young he was employed in the First National Bank of Youngstown under Robert McCurdy.  When a bank was opened in Poland he became its cashier.  Later he worked in banks in Warren and Nile, and organized the Struthers bank.  He responded to an urgent call and accepted the position of treasurer of the Warren bank and stock company.  In 1907 he sold his stock in the Warren bank and became the cashier and a stockholder of The Farmers National Bank of Canfield.  He was elected president in 1921 and was president until he resigned in 1926 due to ill health.  He was secretary of The Farmers Savings & Loan Co. of Canfield, Ohio  which was co-located in the banking house of The Farmers National Bank.

In 1891 he was married to Miss Daisy Seaborn of Girard, OH.  They had four surviving children--Mrs. R.D. Fowler, Mrs. H.I. Hine, E.M. Liddle of Canfield and Carl Liddle of New York.  His wife died unexpectedly in May 1923.

Oh June 8, 1927, Mr. Liddle was found dead in his automobile in the garage near his home on South Broad Street.  He planned to drive to his mother's house in Poland before noon.  Members of the family believed he was in Poland until a call from his mother alerted them that he had not arrived there.  His daughter, Ethel, began looking and found him dead apparently while entering the car.  Drs. Campbell and Lawton were summoned and they called coroner M.R. Hayes. The cause of death was found to be from a cerebral hemorrhage.

He was a Member of Hillman Lodge, No. 481, Free and Accepted Masons; Youngstown Chapter, No. 20, Royal Arch Masonry; St. John's Commandery, No. 20; Knights Templar, Lake Erie Consistory; Al Koran temple; Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine; and Youngstown Elks Lodge No. 55.  He loved the outdoors, hunting and caring for trees.

Ethel M. (Liddle) Fowler (1892-1982) worked in the bank with her father and was elected an assistant cashier in 1921. She had attended the commercial department of the Northeastern Ohio Normal College and was employed as a part-time bookkeeper in the bank. She served the bank for 47 years and during that time was elected cashier, vice president, a director and secretary to the board of directors in 1951. Mrs. Fowler was a 45-year member of the National Association of Bank Women, Inc. She was married to Ralph D. Fowler, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Fowler, in 1914. She is one of a handful of known female national bank note signers for Ohio.
