Havana is a city in and the county seat of Mason County, Illinois. The population was 3,301 at the 2010 census. In 1880, the population was 2,118 and it peaked in 1950 at 4,379. The city was named after Havana, the capital of Cuba.

Havana is located on the Illinois River near the Chautauqua National Wildlife Refuge, and a short distance from Bath, Illinois. Havana was notorious as a gambling river town, and it is reported that names such as Al Capone would hunt, fish, and gamble in the local clubs.

Havana had one National Bank chartered during the Bank Note Era, and it issued National Bank Notes.

The Havana National Bank of Havana was organized in 1875 by George S. King, Dr. E.B. Harphan, F. Lowe, August Otto, S.H. Ingersoll, G.T. Meyer, Adolf Krebaum, and their associates, with a capital stock of $50,000. In 1926 the officers of the bank were as follows: C.P. King, president; A.D. Cullinane, vice president; Oliver D. Covington, vice president, Philip D. Dieffenbacher, cashier; and L.W. Anno, assistant cashier. The members of the board of directors were Philip D. Dieffenbacher, C.P. King, Oliver D. Covington, A.D. Cullinane, Louis Hahn, G.K. Linton, and E. Morgan. The vice presidents from organization through 1926 were August Otto, Dr. E.B. Harphan, G.T. Meyer, O.H. Harphan, and Oliver D. Covington.
