Town History

Vincentown is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located on the South Branch Rancocas Creek in Southampton Township of Burlington County, New Jersey. The area is served as United States Postal Service ZIP code 08088. As of the 2010 United States Census, the population for ZIP Code Tabulation Area 08088 was 24,664.

In 1743, James, Vincent and Philo Leeds purchased the land from John Burr where the community is now built. It was later named after Vincent Leeds as Vincent's Town. Previously, the village had been known as Brimstone Neck and later Quakertown.

Vincentown had one National Bank chartered during the Bank Note Era, and it issued National Bank Notes.

In January 1898, the directors were William J. Irick, John B. Irick, Evan Buzby, Frank E. Allen, Franklin Antrim, Henry J. Irick. The officers were William J. Irick, president; Samuel O. Ross, cashier; and W.B. Ross, teller.

In January 1913, the directors were William J. Irick, John B. Irick, Evan Buzby, Henry J. Irick, William B. Ross, John P. Lippincott, John R. Wilkinson, R. The officers were William J. Irick, president; William B. Ross, cashier; Howard S. Stackhouse, teller; and Horace Wills, clerk.

In January 1940, Howard S. Stackhouse was elected president to succeed the late William J. Irick. Other officers were William B. Ross, cashier; V.M. Irick, teller, and Ralph W. Haines, solicitors. The directors were J. Ellis Irick, J.R. Wilkinson, Louis S. Brown, Stackhouse, Ross, and Barclay H. Allen.

In January 1948, in the reorganization of the First National Bank of Vincentown, Howard S. Stackhouse was re-elected president and also named cashier. He succeeded the late Vincent M. Irick who died December 10, 1947. Other officers were Barclay H. Allen, vice president; Ralph Haines, solicitor; Ethelbert, Martin and Ralph Haines, Stackhouse and Allen, directors.

On September 16, 1963, Howard S. Stackhouse, a banker for 55 years, died in Burlington County Memorial Hospital. President of the First National Bank of Vincentown for 24 years, he was recently made chairman of the board of the Union National Bank of Mount Holly. He was a 50-year member of the New Jersey Bankers Association and Central Lodge 44, F&AM of which he was past master.

The First National became part of Heritage Bancorporation.
