In October, 1914, a record crop of cranberries was being gathered by Charles D. Makepeace on his bogs at Weymouth, South River, and Mays Landing. It was estimated five bogs would yield above 20,000 bushels of berries, which were in fine condition.

In September 1916, Cashier Morse of the First National Bank of Mays Landing was puzzled over a $5 banknote issued 65 years earlier by the Merchants Bank of May's Landing which he received from R.L. Dittrich of Lorraine, Virginia who ran across it in settling up an old estate. The note purported to be secured by pledge of public securities in the state treasury and Mr. Dettrich was advised to seek payment there.

In 1918, Dr. Henry C. James, a practicing physician from Mays Landing, was elected president upon the retirement of Charles Makepeace.

On January 14, 1935, at the annual stockholders' meeting, Dr. Henry C. James was re-elected president. Several new members were named to the board. Simon G. Huber, for many years superintendent of schools, was elected vice president. Roy E. Beach was another new directors and joined Albert C. Abbott, William N. Mattix, Charles H. Kears, Dominick Corsiglia, Joseph Kirkpatrick and Joseph Strash. Albert C. Abbott was reappointed solicitor; Ralph Smith, cashier; Otis Luderitz, assistant cashier, Miss Dellora Davia and Henry Loper were reappointed on the office staff.

On April 26, 1960, Charles D. Makepeace, 85, treasurer-emeritus of Williams College, died in North Adams Hospital where he was under treatment for a heart ailment. He served as treasurer of the college from 1935 to 1950. Mr. Makepeace was born in Hyannis on April 4, 1875, the son of Abel D. and Josephine Crocker Makepeace. He attended Worcester Academy, and in 1900, received his AB degree from Williams College, and in 1950, received an honorary LL.D. degree from Williams. In 1902 Mr. Makepeace married the former Pauline Russell of North Adams, who died in December, 1928. In March 1936, he married the former Isabelle A. Larssen of Stamford, Connecticut. Mr. Makepeace was one of the original officers of the Mercantile Trust & Deposit Co. of New York, and through a series of mergers, joined the Chase National Bank in New York as vice president of Chase to become executive vice president of the First Stamford National Bank & Trust Co. in Stamford, Connecticut. In J935, he left Stamford to become treasurer of Williams College. Mr. Makepeace served as a member of the board of governors and treasurer of the Thomas Jefferson Memorial Foundation which conducted a nationwide campaign for a million dollars to purchase Monticello, Jefferson's home. He was a directors of the Agricultural National Bank of Pittsfield, Massachusetts and for the American Safety Razor Corp.
