Town History
Grant City is the county seat of Worth County in north western Missouri. The town was laid out in 1864, and was named after General Ulysses S. Grant. A Grant City Post Office has been in operation since 1864.
During the National Bank Note Era (1863-1935), the population of Grant City was 493 in 1880. It grew rapidly to its highest population of 1,406 in 1900, and then dropped to 1,126 in 1930. The current population is estimated at 791 (2019).
