Town History
Eureka is located in McPherson County in North Central South Dakota. The town was laid out in 1887, and named "Eureka", a Greek exclamation meaning "I have found it!"
During the National Bank Note Era (1863-1935), the population of Eureka was 961 in 1900, growing to 1,308 in 1930. It's highest population was 1,576 in 1950, and the population was 813 at the 2020 census.
