Belmond is located in Wright County in north central Iowa.

On October 21, 1881, by a vote of 51 to 47, Belmond became an incorporated town.

During the National Bank Note Era, the population of Belmond was 1,234 in 1900, staying fairly constant with 1,797 in 1920. It's highest population was 2,560 in 2000, and the current population is estimated at 2,296 (2018).
