The Californian, largest American-built motorship in service pulled into Lawrence Terminal on its maiden trip from Boston to Oakland. The vessel was 461 feet long, displaced 14,000 tons and was powered by two four-cycle marine Diesel engines. American-Hawaiian line inaugurated a weekly intercoastal schedule for the ship.
