Bank of Kentucky, Louisville, Obsolete $5 Proof, Haxby KY-195. The bank was chartered in early 1834 with six branches, eventually expanding that number to thirteen. The state held a 40% stake in the enterprise. In 1866 all of the branches except for Frankfort were closed. The Frankfort branch became the Kentucky National Bank. The note design features a vignette of two deer hunters resting. At left is an oval portrait of Henry Clay above and a fanciful vignette of Washington seated, wearing a toga. An oval portrait of Isaac Shelby, the first and fifth governor of Kentucky, and a vignette of a cupid are at right KY ch5312
