Clinton Bank, Conn. October 1863, spurious 1's were reported with a suspension bridge vignette, "1" each upper corner, and a female figure on right. On Saturday night, October 1, 1864, burglars broke into the bank building and smashed a padlock attached to the outside of the safe. Fortunately, the bank had added a combination lock to the safe the day prior and the frustrated thieves retired.

On January 1, 1974, a notice of public hearing on the matter of the proposed merger between The Connecticut Bank and Trust Company of Hartford and The Clinton National Bank of Clinton was published. In April 1974, the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System approved the merger. In May, the Connecticut Bank and Trust Company (CBT) planned to be serving four more Connecticut communities: Clinton, Killingworth, Madison, and Westbrook. Also a new office in the Asylum Hill section of Hartford was scheduled for opening. CBT was a leader in providing free checking to all of its savings customers and also had the highest bank credit card volume in Connecticut with Master Charge balances of more than $49 million.
