Cherry Creek is a town in Chautauqua County, NY, taking its name from the small stream that flows through the town into Conewango Creek.  The community was first settled circa 1815, and the town of Cherry Creek was formed in 1829 from part of the town of Ellington. The settlement got its name from a cherry tree planted by Holland Land Company surveyor Joshua Bentley to mark the center of the new town.  By 1900 the community featured churches, schools, grocery and meat markets, clothing and dry goods stores. Using the area's water, timber, agricultural and mineral resources, factories produced cheese and butter boxes, charcoal, and milk products and supported a canning factory and an iron foundry.

The population was 1,118 at the 2010 census and peaked in 1900 at 1,745.

Cherry Creek had two National Banks chartered during the Bank Note Era, and both of those banks issued National Bank Notes.
